5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Deciding On Your Dream Wedding Gown

So you think you’ve found The One. The wedding dress of your dreams, the one you’ve been dreaming of since you were a little kid. (We didn’t mean your fiancé this time but we’re glad you found him too.)

But before you settle, there are some important questions you should ask about the dress. If your wedding gown doesn’t tick off these boxes, it might be good for you to take a step back and reconsider.

1. Do you feel confident in the dress?

Sometimes we may enter the bridal boutique with certain expectations, but we should prepare ourselves just in case things don’t turn out the way we thought they would. Maybe the embroidery didn’t look the way we wanted to or the silhouette draws attention to the wrong parts of our body.

It’s essential that you look and feel good in the dress. The better you feel, the more beautiful you will naturally look in your gown.

2. Do you feel like yourself?

Don’t get too caught up in the concept and mood of the ceremony when it comes to your dress! It’s not uncommon for dresses to be designed with certain themes in mind; some dresses may make you look more bohemian, while others may look more dramatic. But if the overall look doesn’t fit your usual style, you might end up feeling a little awkward. While your wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, there is no shame in sticking with a gown that is simply an elevation of your everyday look.

3. Does your wedding date present any limitations?

Sadly, there’s still a need to be practical when it comes to your big day. Here at CCM, we recommend that you start searching for your dress at least 8 months in advance!

We understand that sometimes life gets in the way and you may end up finding your dress a little late in the game. However, that may mean that your choices are limited to sample dresses or off the rack gowns, with less time for alterations.

4. Does your dress suit your venue?

Outdoor weddings are all the rage nowadays but if your dream dress has a long dragging train, that might present a problem on the day itself. After all, you wouldn’t want to greet your guests in a stained dress!

If the hem of your wedding gown can be shorted, then no problem! But if you’re running out of time or if alteration is just not an option, you might want to consider another dress.

5. Are you settling just for the sake of settling?

Yes, buying a wedding gown can be a long and sometimes tedious process. It’s not uncommon to hear of brides who opt for the easiest dress possible just to end the selection process asap. However, don’t deprive yourself of the pleasure of wearing the perfect dress on your big day!

To make the selection process a little easier, try booking an appointment with the bridal boutique on a weekday. Most bridal boutiques tend to be a little less busy during the weekdays so you can be sure the stylist is paying you their full attention and not thinking about their next client.
