Is Customisation For You?
Finding the perfect wedding dress is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. It can be even harder if you have specific tastes and ideas of how the dress should look! It is a momentous task and should only be done with the most hardy of entourages.
If you just can’t find your dream dress in any of the hundreds of bridal boutiques you’ve been to, it just might be time to consider making your own custom wedding dress. Customisation will give you the utmost control over all the details of your dress, allowing you to finetune it till it looks exactly the way you want it.
But before making this big decision, there are some factors to consider if customisation is the right choice for you.
1. Have you searched far and wide enough?
It may seem like an obvious question, but in the heat of the moment, it can be easy to despair and think you’ll never find your perfect dress after only visiting two or three shops. Here at CCM Wedding, we recommend you visit at least 4 to 5 bridal boutiques before considering customisation as a route.
2. Is there a specific wedding dress style that you truly desire?
Most places would recommend that you settle on a theme and location for your wedding before you go searching for your dream dress, since the style of the wedding gown would be dependent on your theme. If you have a clear idea on the styling—whether it be bohemian, medieval, retro or classic—and silhouette, it will make the whole customisation process easier for everyone involved.
3. Are you a decisive person?
In some ways, customising your own wedding dress can be even more tiring than choosing one from a bridal boutique. You have to be very definitive when it comes to your choices, and there will be a lot of them. Most dress designers will use the theme and venue of your wedding as a foundational base for your wedding dress before deciding on the length of the dress.
You will also have to consider what situations will you be wearing your dress in. Is it only for the ROM? Are you using in during a march in? Or will you be dancing as well? Depending on the scenario, certain silhouettes may be out of the question.
You will then have to choose the colour of your dress; if it’s white, you are going to have to choose the exact shade of white. Then you will move on to the material of the dress and its lace embellishments, if you want any at all.
4. Do you have enough time?
If you’re looking to do customisation, you will have to make a decision fast! We recommend settling on your customised gown at least 6 months in advance, so there will be enough time for any alterations!
5. Have you consulted a wedding dress designer?
Here at CCM Wedding, our dress designer Christie is always in store. With a wedding dress designer on hand, it can be easier to see all your options during a consultation as the designer can recommend dresses in silhouettes and styles that you may not even have dreamed of. Who knows, you may even find a wild card of a dress that blows everything else out of the water? And if not, you will be able to discuss the customisation process with the designer straight off.
If you’re looking for a customised wedding dress, our doors are always open. You’ll be sure to find one that fits within your budget.
